Sourdough Doughnuts
INGREDIENTS
Dough
- ½ cup and 2 tbsp milk
- ¼ cup sugar
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 2 cups ap flour
- 1 egg
- ½ cup sourdough starter
- ½ teaspoon salt
- Oil to fry in
Glaze
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- 1-2 tablespoons milk
- About 3-4 drops of maple flavoring
DIRECTIONS
1. In a saucepan melt butter and dissolve sugar in the milk
2. Add mixture into a stand mixer with a dough hook, add a cup of flour
3. Add starter, salt, another cup of flour and the egg, knead until combined and the dough should pull away from the sides about 5-10 min
4. Cover and put in a warm place for 5-6 hours
5. Place dough in fridge for overnight
6. Flour and surface and roll out to about 1/2 an inch thickness
7. Cut the doughnuts out
8. Put on a baking sheet. Cover with a damp towel and let rise again for 1-1/2 hours
9. Add about 1/2 an inch of oil to a cast iron pan
10. Heat oil (if you put a wooden spoon in the oil, bubbles will circle the spoon when the oil is ready)
11. Fry each side for 30 sec to a min
12. Place on a wire rack to cool while you make the glaze
13. To make the glaze you will add all ingredients to a saucepan over low heat
14. Melt together while mixing
15. Turn heat off and dip the doughnuts in the glaze
16. And put back on wire rack
17. Let come to a slight cool and then enjoy
